Details at Sunset

I have walked past this corner of Nolita more times than I can remember.  Then one evening a couple of weeks ago, walking home around sunset, I suddenly saw the building which housed the somewhat unremarkable hardware store.

I thought it was quite lovely.  (I even love that there's plant life - probably a weed - growing out of that little corner.)  It reminded me of Frank Lloyd Wright.  Somehow, it made sense to me since this is on the same block as the only Louis Sullivan building in New York City.  I wonder what the building was like before...

Old School

It's certainly been a long time since I last posted!  Seasons went by.  A hurricane and a long-ish blackout happened.  A trip to Montreal, with an unforgettable meal at Au Pied de Cochon, took place.  So much to catch up with...

One of our ongoing projects, for a while now, has been a general clearing and organising round the house.  To that end, the husband and I got together some electronics to take to an electronics recycling event at Tek Serve in the early spring.  Before the things were packed up in the car, the Husband had to show me his first mobile phone.  He had got a deal on it on a project he worked on in 1990!  Even with the deal, it cost $1000!  It was HUGE!  It looked like a brick and weighed about as much.  What's more, the only people he could call were his colleagues on the project.  Most people didn't have mobile phones in those days...

One Year

There has been radio silence on the blog for quite a while - one post in the past year.  Well, it was a busy year.  I realised today that it was this weekend last year that we brought home the Puppy.

Wow

The Husband and I only recently discovered Baked in Red Hook. We are a little late to the party, of course - I think they have already been featured on the Cooking Channel. Yesterday, we tried their Sweet & Salty Brownie - this is what they featured on television. It's the best brownie I've ever tasted in my life. It was so good, I wanted to light up a cigarette after we finished eating it.

More Mud

One of the pleasures of living around Union Square is the fantastic farmers' market. Yesterday, I bought some heirloom grape tomatoes from said market. The seller suggested that I put the tomatoes on a plate to separate them when I go home. So I decided to have fun with some of the Mud pieces.

Did I mention how amazing food looks on those gorgeous dishes?
